Featured Employee-- Wayne Henderson

Wayne Henderson, (left), has worked on many
engineering
projects during his 33 year career with the NRCS.
One of his latest projects was 20 years
in the
making, featuring a partnership between county,
state and federal agencies. |
When it comes to helping others, Wayne Henderson is definitely the right
person for the job. Henderson, a Civil Engineering Technician in the Spartanburg
Field Office, has been employed with NRCS since 1974. He also currently serves
on the Civil Rights Advisory Committee as the Disability Special Emphasis
Program Manager.
Throughout his career, Henderson has worked on many engineering projects
designed to enhance the quality of life for South Carolina citizens. When a
devastating Hurricane Hugo hit the South Carolina coast in September of 1989,
Henderson acted as the lead inspector helping the state to repair many problems
and issues dealing with water quality. He also helped many landowners clear
debris out of watercourses surrounding their homes and property.
Recently, Henderson celebrated the completion of the Holly Hill Flood
Prevention Project in Orangeburg County, SC. The project was a 20-year
partnership between, county, state and federal agencies which corrected flooding
and drainage problems for more than 2,000 residents in this small rural
community. Henderson illustrated his sincere dedication to this effort by
temporarily relocating to Holly Hill which was several hours drive from his home
county.
“I love what I do, and enjoy helping others. Regardless of what the project
entails, I always feel proud when it’s completed. Whether it’s protecting water
quality, preventing floods, or even installing irrigation ponds through EQIP,
the final results are evident years later, and I know that they are helping
people have a better quality of life.”
